The present progressive tense

The present progressive tense is used to talk about

  • current activities: “I‘m fixing the stove right now.”
  • events that will not last: “Julie is staying at our house for the summer.”

To form the present progressive tense, use the appropriate present form of the verb “to be” in front of the present participle (the “-ing” form of the verb).

“I am waiting for a friend.”
“So, you are thinking about quitting.”
“The elephant is disappearing from the wilds of Africa.”
“We are usingless paper in our office than we use to.”
“The firemen are putting out the fire.”
